c220 losing a fair bit of water

hi
i have a 95 c220 and its used a litre of water in the last 50 miles?
any ideas?

First, check for any visible external leaks..water pump.....hoses....pressure cap, etc,....any leak should be easily discoverable given the the rate at which you are losing water ....

Then, if nothing found, check oil level with dipstick, if the oil on the dipstick looks 'emulsified' (mayonaise) and the oil level is high then the problem is likely to be the head gasket failed.

Check also the underside of the oil filler cap for signs of emulsification which, again, would indicate oil mixed with coolant, = head gasket failure.
