C220 SPORT AUTO GEAR PROBLEMS

Thanks for letting me join this group, i have a 2018 c220 sport plus with 50000 miles on it ,its been fully serviced.
i have been having intermittent problems putting the car into drive, putting into drive it goes straight back to neutral ,it will go into reverse no problem, if you keep selecting drive it will eventually go into third gear with a clunk then you can drive it but it will only drive up to 5th gear and when you stop it will return to third gear
if you leave the car for ten minutes you can go back to it and it will drive away normally.i had it in the garage a few times and the error is failed to select reverse,the last service the gearbox oil and filter were changed ,but the problem has been around before that.
any help with this would be much appreciated as every garage visit is costing me a fortune

I'm not sure if you are talking about a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission? Which box is it specifically, how many gears, model etc?

That sounds very much like selector module failure but in reality it could be a number of things, you say you’ve take it to a garage, was that a Mercedes independent specialist or just general garage?

If he's putting it into Drive then it’s an auto. A 2018 C Class should be the 9G box,

Ah OK 9G that's well above my pay grade unfortunately and being honest I don't even know much about 7G - just know that both 7G and 9G are superb.

One of my main worries about going for an electric car is never wanting to be without my excellent 722.6 5G transmission.
