PLEASE HELP
Recently bought a C220cdi. Have run it for about a week and tonight the alarm set itself off. I was unable to remote unlock/lock or start the car. I resorted in disconnecting the battery only to find the alarm back up still on. After a few attempts, I've managed to switch the inside sensor off. Reconnected the battery and alarm is now off but I still can not use the remote or start the car.

From what I can find it would appear to be the SAM (signal acquistion and actuation module) when it goes down, locking goes, car will not start and battery goes flat because the data bus remains active.
It is hard on some faults to be exact and this is a hard one. I cant tell tou to go and buy this or that, for I could be way out or wrong.

MB have a modified module part num 027 545 45 32 modified front right SAM module

Hello again;
Have counted my losses and taken the car to a Merc service dealer. After £174.49 later I still have the problem although an inspection was done and a0.79A drain was found but still unlocated.
Tests done: Star test; checked battery drain; removed front SAM and ECU; removed all fuses & relay; Removed SAM; removed phone control unit; removed alarm siren and found corrosion on wiring and siren, but drain still present when disconnected.
I'm loosing faith.

Sorry I could be of no more use, Some of these faults are a nightmare, If MB must have so many electronic boxes, many of them interlinked like the SAM and alarm all joined into a CAN bus, all data coded it might not have been a bad idea to have built in a self test. The avarage Car eng: cant cope with these systems, I started in electronics in 1950, many people dropped out with solid state, more went with digital technoligy. We are now left with no one coming into the electronic trade, just a few coarses at technical colleges.
The piece that hurts is that MB are quite happy with the situation that lets semi skilled people loose on your car, every hour they spend on your car is a nice little earner for them. In the end it can only get worse.

Why not get someone to press the horn while you stand in front of the car and listen or try and smell roast duck.

C220 CDI electics

 Hi; Back again.
I had some news today on the battery drain. They have order a new ECU unit. Does this make sense? A drain on the unit that Mercedes could not pick up?

In my field these are nightmare faults, everything interacts together, where CAN buses and DATA buses run a fault in any one can take the system down.
the worst thing is that all of the data has to be taken out of the faulty unit and transferred to the replacement. where nothing makes sense is that when a unit is faulty how the hell do you get the data out of it. I cant, and no one can. what I have to do is to feed in the basic data needed to get it up and running and program the system from there, the equipment for this cost an arm and leg, its life is short and becomes obsolescent after a few years. the last problem is getting hold of the basic data to feed in, most manufactuers do not give it out freely. Sorry to go on, I should have had a sweet shop selling toffee's
In answer to your questions looking at the data bank, any control unit could cause it and would have to be replaced.

203 siren

HI
most common problem with 203 alarm is water in the siren it is located in the N/S/F wheel arch liner (good spot no water in there then). connection to a star machine is best to identify last alarm activation but if it is the siren it doesn't leave a record. For information the alarm siren is hard wired to rear SAM which also controls locking actuation so problem could be there.
good luck

Thanks Piestore but I no longer own the car. I've return it after a week from date of purchase. Control unit for driver seat faulty* None avaiable in the country * Five days delay from Germany.
I've bought another C220 CDI from a main dealer.
