I have a five year old C220CDI (W202) recently purchased from a quality car, not MB, dealer. On a reciprocal arrangement, they send cars to other nearby franchised dealers for work to be done. Mine has two leaky injectors. The MB franchise says that all four, plus an electronic "control box" need to be replaced according to an MB directive. "My" garage claims that this is not so and won't authorise the work. Meanwhile my car has spent a week, unloved, in a cold wet compound. Who is right? I'm just 'piggy in the middle' and not enjoying it.

I just had two injectors replaced on my car, at 93k. I know the other 4 will not last a lot longer but they are damned expensive. Even more so if you have to replace the control unit as well.

I guess you like the cdi, I must admit that C220CDI is a heck of a nice car and I think if it were mine I would be taking the view that what has gone wrong was going to happen sooner or later when you would be totally on your own. Unfortunately the injectors and some of these other parts are not as durable on Mercs as one one might think. I have had many diesel cars go over 100k and none of them has ever needed an injector or any work on the injection pump. But the Mercs differ. I just had a £700 bill for replacing two injectors.

What would I do in your place? It is unfortunate for your seller. MB insist the four injectors must be replaced. I wonder would it be worth finding out what the MB garage is charging your seller for doing that much. Perhaps then you could take the car to a good specialist, some of them listed in Mercedes Enthusiast, most of them are as reputable [or in many eyes more reputable] as a main dealer and see what it would cost to replace all 4 injectors and the control unit. There are other very reputable manufactured parts suitable for this because they are all made by outside suppliers and very often at much reduced prices. You could then look at the cost difference. I do think though that with this done you will not have much of a risk of something of this nature going wrong again and it could be worth making a contribution.

You could also end up doing a trade in deal and leaving the problem with your seller but if you have got used to the car and it is a good one apart from this problem it may seem a shame to lose it. When the job is done you will have a better car than if the problem had never happened and it should increase your resale value.

I have a 2000 E220 Cdi with 90K. I had the injectors overhauled. they say it could not be done , but i have am injector specialist near me ( Shaun Arkinstall, Yate , Nr Bristol ) and he has found a way. That said it had a problem with the injector seats after and had to have them redone. Not sure how long they will last but it was a lot cheaper than replacing the 4 with new.

Time for your injection?

The selling garage will have to pay, the car is under their warranty. I am concerned that the job is done right, not compromised. My previous Merc was 22 years old, I expect this one to do as well! Are there any independent Merc specialists north of Manchester? I (and others) would be interested to hear from them.

Hi
It depends which test the injectors have failed on if the correction quantity is uot side tolerance only change the injectors needed, if they fail on leak off quantity on the CDI3 system they should all be changed i guess you would be CDI 1 or 2, however at that mileage it is to your benifit to have tham all changed as they are expensive
