c220CDi starting and running problem

Wonder if anyone can help with my son's c220 CDi
This will be a bit of a long post as I will try to include all relevent info.
The original fault was intermittant poor starting, only when warm (it would start then die away and take a lot of cranking to get going again) after reading various posts we changed all the plastic fuel lines and this cured the probem completely - at least for a few weeks. The original problem has now returned though nowhere near as regularly but in addition other symptoms are now occuring. On two occasions the engine has died out whilst driving and today as it died the ETC warning light came on. after a bit of cranking it started again and drove normally with no light on.

Any thoughts on where to start looking?

I would get a injector leak-off test done on your injectors, this measures the amount of diesel which is leaking through the injector, possiblily causing your problems if there is too much!!

Thanks Ellsy, A bit premture for injector failure isn't it as the engine has only done 75K? However I will get this checked out

This will not be faulty injectors, do what Ellsy says
