I would appreciate any ideas on a fault on my 98 C220D (non turbo).

A few weeks ago the EPC light came on accompanied by a loss of power. I managed to limp home on what I think was a "get you home" situation.

On restarting the engine ran perfectly on tick over & up to about 2000 revs, either whilst stationary or when driving, as soon as the revs went up the EPC light came on again with a repeat of the fault.

The next morning everything was fine!!!. I used the car for a few weeks covering some 1,100 miles with absolutely no problems. Then today exactly the same thing occurred. Two hours later it is fine again & I cannot replicate the fault.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Your Mercedes

It could be the EGR valve actuators are faulty but really you need the fault codes read by either an MB dealer or Bosch specialist.

Thanks Dieselman,

I have now done 1600 miles since the original breakdown with 500 of these since the second breakdown.

The car is booked in tomorrow to get the computer readouts, I will keep you informed,

An update for you all. The specialist read out stated the injector pump was at fault. For financial reasons I hoped that this was not the case  !!

After about another 1000 miles the fault started to recur more regularly (don't they always). I found that if I restarted & then drove for a mile or two at less than 2000 revs it cleared the problem. Not great but kept me going for a week or two.

I have now bit the bullet & fitted a guenuine Merc recon pump. 2000 miles later everything seems fine. :D
