c220d fuel filter

any advice on changeing the fuel filter on my 97 c220d would really be apreciated . is the nut on top of the filter houseing a bleed nut or is it to be undone to assist the removal of the filter ? also where do the spring and rubber washer suplied with the new filter go ? thanks
