Hi. I 've just got a puncture today on my c220d. I was less than a mile from home so it wasn't a major problem... Until I realised that the car comes with a compressor and a tub of gunk which will ruin the tyre if I use it. No jack, different size nuts from the wife's ford so no wrench either. I'd like to get a spacesaver but need to know whether I can fit one in the storage space under the boot. If not, has anyone come up with any decent compromises? (bought a jack and wrench or similar) thank you

The gunk and compressor work quite well. It won’t ruin the tyre and it can still be repaired but your tyre fitter might moan a bit.

Not necessarily, unfortunately, I've known two tyre fitting centres decline to repair a tyre that's had 'gunk/foam' put in it.

I know somebody who had a puncture early one morning the other week, the same situation re no spare, jack etc.. Fortunately close to home, walked hone, collected second car, jack, socket etc., removed wheel, leaving the car at the side of the road, went to the local tyre fitters - 'no problem, leave it over there, we're very busy and will try and look at it tomorrow'. Not ideal.

A friend of mine sells space saver kits for cars, they come as original specifically for the car.

When my father bought his BMW X1 he got the optional space saver kit for £80 in it, seems a good idea as it is not on RF tyres

Depending on your wheel size, the Vredestein Space Master used on the R170 (SLK) may suit you. It has a collapsible 165/70-16 tyre that fits in the S205 under boot space. You'll need to buy the jack and wrench found on the W211, W212 etc., and you'll still need a compressor to inflate it as it's stored depressurised, but at least it all fits.
Hope this helps,
Rod

Be aware that the compressor that comes with the SLK packaway spare takes forever to inflate the tyre - as i found out the hard way! On a cold December Sunday late morning we gave up when it got to about 40psi even though one side of the tyre still had not pumped out properly, it wa still enough to get us the +/-5 miles home but was flat an hour later. I've not taken it out since to see if inflating it to it's recommended max of 50psi will properly inflate it or if despite never having been used before, it needs replacing.
