I took the car to the stealer last friday to be told that they had found the leak which required a new 'o' ring on a sensor on the box. They also changed the gearbox oil and filters as was my request.
I had asked them to look into the recent problem which happened when the car was changing from 2nd to 1st gear on slow down. It felt like the engine was braking whilst slowing down.
When I phoned the dealer to see if the car was ready they said that I really needed a new gearbox as worn teflon seals in the box have worn and it is not cost effective to strip and repair a box. The price would be £1,500 for the box plus 6 hours labour. The reason for the seals wearing was the cars mileage and age. I ask him how many miles the car had done and he replied that he would have a look. I said don't bother as it has only done 39,000 miles in nearly 10 years. He replied then that is was the age of the car.
He then asked me to hold on a second while he spoke to the mechanic. When he returned he said that the mechanic had made some adjustments to the box and it was now ok.
When I got home I looked under the car only to see that the box was still leaking. I have told them and will contact them again tomorrow.
Are there teflon seals in the electronic box and do they wear? Am I being taken for a ride here?
