Help please. I have an 'S' Reg C240 and placed it in a friends garage a couple of months ago for storage whilst I was working abroad. The garage is vey tight and I had to raise the bonnet to get the car in. When I came back to the UK a week ago I tried to start the car but the battery was totally flat. Next problem - I have no boot key. The plastic electric key won't move at all in the ignition switch and I cannot get the car out of 'park'.
I have had two mechanics attempt to sart the car - no luck. Also I have borrowed a 'Cosmic' handheld car starter which you charge up and plug into the cigarette lighter - the instructions say that after 10 minutes this should boost the battery sufficiently to start the car. Guess what!!! it doesn't.
Suggestions and any solutions would be appreciated.

welcome to the forum. you might get the boot open with the handheld starter pluged in as it might power up the locks then you can get to the battery

The cigarette lighter won’t be any use to you unless the ignition is switched on however there is a point under the bonnet as in picture, attach a Live + feed to 2 or 3 and the Negative - to any good earth on the chassis, you will then be able to open the boot via the central locking and charge the battery as roofless says.

Yes as Dec above, just join up a charger or 12 volt source and the locking should work

Dec or Malcolm
The picture you have sent is in relation to a C180 - I assume the set up is the same in the C240.

It is a bit different.

It may have another 12V Post under the bonnet on the left side.

If not the boot can be opened. If you wish to know how email me.

I presume yours is in the same place, housed in the black box seen in small picture, I can’t speak for a C240 but that picture is taken just beside the passenger bonnet hinge, the pictured electronics are covered with a large removable plastic cover, note the location of the washer tank. I take it from your first post that you have access to under the bonnet. I’m always confused when the right and left side of a car are mentioned because I’m not sure which is which.

There are those that say its when you are standing looking at the front, and those that say sitting in the drivers seat. its a big problem when using WIS and most things are best referred to as drivers side or passenger side.
