I've recently had some gearbox problems with my 1999/v C240

Took it to an independent Mercedes specialist yesterday and was advised that it needs a new gear selector module and was quoted over £500 for this to be done. Which i have not got

I'm due to leave the country with work at the turn of the year and need to get this sorted before then.

My options appear to be advertise on Ebay explaining the problem and settling for the best offer i get for the car (apart from this module problem the car is fine, drives perfect, optioned up to the eyeball and is a great car)

or perhaps see if there is a cheaper option or whether an enthusiast maybe interested in purchasing the car

Any ideas or if anyone is interested let me know

Sorry was a bit vague

Car was unused for about four months battery went flat and i stupidly jump started it(which probably caused a spike)

car drives and you can select park, drive, reverse etc

but will not change up from first gear

On moving from drive to any other gear you have to take your foot off the foot brake to allow the gear selector to move up

The small indicator next to the clock is showing blank

Here is the text of the car and i will try and put some pictures on
It really is a nice car its breaking my heart selling it

4 Door Saloon, Metallic Grey, Tiptronic Automatic, Service History, Mot October 2010.

ABS, Traction control, Air conditioning, Full Leather Trim, Alarm, 17" Alloy wheels, Cruise control, Electric sunroof, Drivers airbag, CD multichanger, Passenger air bag, Side air bags, Rear electric windows, Remote central locking, Electric heated mirrors, Front & rear armrests

Very good condition 130,000 miles

Not heard of a gear selector causing this fault (i may be wrong)

Suspect electroplate or a charge issue - is your techie a merc specialist?

Yes was a Mercedes specialist

They said it was unusual for a jump start to cause it

But it was fine when parked up and next time i drove it the problem was there

He said it might have happened as the battery drained

I'm open to offers

I now have print out of the fault codes showing

The reason it appears to be the gear selector module is that all STORED codes were removed but others are showing as CURRENT

I have the report saved as a PDF can anybody advise how i can get it on here

I'm not very good with computers can i PM someone with it who could get it to show on here so i can get some help
Thanks

Save the pdf on your pc.

Open up a posting window (reply to this thread), click on the paperclip, locate the pdf, submit message.

Job done.

or email me the pdf, and I'll put it up.

It appears i can source a new selector module for £140

How easy is it to fit?

Is anybody in the Essex/London area that could fit for a price?
