Hello, thanks to this forum I knew just what to look for when I purchased a C240 Sport via e-bay(!).

I was pleased to find that it has three keys, two masters and the emergency key.

Problem is that only one of the masters works both via the infra red and radio frequency (key doesn't have to be pointed at the door) this is compounded by the fact that the passenger door does not seem to like infra red even when very close to the handle sensor.

The problematic key has had new batteries and a test by a helpful chap in charlie browns who confirmed that the infra red and radio frequencies work fine. It also starts the car without issue etc.

The key also has a saloon boot release and my car is an estate and so I don't know if this is linked to the issue or is it that new keys are only available with the three buttons. (nice shiny star on the new key)

What do I need to do?, is there a way of reprogramming (as per ford) the Haynes manual (not available for the 240 but still looked useful) has nothing in it and neither do the operator handbooks.

Any advice would be great. :-?

Briefly press the lock or unlock button on you fob Twice.

Put the key in the ignition, and turn to position 2 within 30 secs.

Presto (i hope:D )

Mine has 3 buttons also. Maybe you have the boot locked seperatley with the key.
Put the key in the boot lock and turn anticlockwise, and remove. Then try the fob.

Keys

Hello, thanks for your replies Pascal, unfortunately, the key still doesn't do the business except when it is pointed from close (6ft) range at the drivers door handle sensor.

As before the other master key which looks original is fine and both keys have had their outputs tested.

Any ideas anyone or is it a trip to the local "dealer" (local franchise, Monarch got bought out by MB Direct).

Thanks,
