C240 poss. headgasket gone

I have a 1997 C240, 50010 miles, that recently dumped four pints of coolant into the oil. I bought the car 18 months ago from Merc, with MBFSH. Last service 1700 miles ago by merc. Anyone got any suggestions or had this problem before as all the merc people, MB and independant, I have spoken to cant believe its happened.

Wow that is unlucky.

Have you had the car from new? If so has the engine ever overheated?

The head gaskets on the 112 engine are normally very reliable.

Just something to bear in mind that there are two seals behind the front cover of this engine that whilst not common have been known to fail and will unfortunately fill the sump with coolant.

Good luck although it sounds like there?s going to be a bill.

typically coolant in oil can either be a head gasket or a cracked head typically....

Maybach, I have had the car for 18 months and it has had no overheating probs while i have driven it, even when this happened.

Spoken to a independant mb mechcanic and he told me that the head gaskets are more probable than the seals you mentioned, also the seals are almost as difficult to replace.

As for the bill i'm still plugging away at MB, at the moment i've reached the Directors Office of Customer Operations.
