If you need to unplug the amp it is in C pillar and I can give you the instructions

usually easier to unplug plug 23 on the back of the sam unit for the amp.

Thanks Alex and TV. I'll try the siren first then come back for amp instructions if still a problem. Thanks again. Get back to you soon.

I have had this problem for months and an Indie was unable to identify the problem. When the locks fail the wipers, indicators, washers etc also fail. At least I can get home by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, The Area Network resets itself and things come to life again. The door handle is a new one to me. I would be interested to find out how we re- programme the door handle. My next car will be something cheap where they cannot afford to fill it full of crap electrics.

The sensor in the driver's door handle came direct from Mercedes in Germany, pre-programmed. It cost £120 but it restored my central locking facility, although not from a distance.

Update - Problem resolved. Fixed by a very smart man - Mr Alex Crow.

The loss of my remote central locking function was caused by a faulty alarm siren. It developed an internal short which blew the fuse – fuse No.8 in the boot. The fuse also powers the amplifier for the radio, although the fuse chart doesn’t mention this link. Apparently, the amplifier also receives the ultrasound signal from the key fob.

As soon as the siren was replaced and the fuse replaced, the remote central locking facility worked perfectly.

My sincere thanks to everyone for their help, with special thanks to Alex. Such a nice man.

Mercedes c180 coupe long range central locking and poor radio signal problem

Hi alex, television

I have a similar problem with my car and have had it since i bought it. I tried to resolve it and television helped me before but i gave up.

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=82026&page=5

My alarm siren works perfect, my long rang central locking is shot and my radio signal is shot. I have put the pin in the input to the amp and the radio works. I noticed that the antenna in the rear screen has a loose connection and is coming away from the glass. Shall i start by taking it off completely and reattaching, (but with what)

Where would i go from here. Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Lee

On the coupe, the antenna amp/s behind the plastic trim panel tend/s to come unbonded. Usually they can be resecured, I believe there is a thread on the forum to this effect.

Oh I just love this forum.... I have had a 2001 C180 for 7 months and in all that time I have had trouble with it killing batteries and also only being able to lock/unlock it from about 1 inch away.
After much reading of this and other threads on here I disconected the alarm siren and......... now all the locking is working as it should and no more battery drain.
Thanks once again you guys, keep up the good work.
P.s Malcolm... I am breaking my CL500 so if ya looking for any particular bits let me know.

I have this with my 2004 c180 kompressor. The central locking with the keys seems to work ok when in the dark! But i have to hold the key and press the remote right next to the door handle. Then in the day it might not work at all which is an absolute pain having to lock the car from the inside then lock the drivers door manually. What could I check myself before having to get it put on diagnosis machine?
