C250 Blue efficiency 2009 2.2
Hi everyone!

I've bought a new car for myself :)

I'll get some pictures soon. It's a C220 Blue Efficiency, 2.2 204BHP Model. 2009 plate.

However, I need to find out how I can get the engine code or model for my car?

Secondly I am having issues with it - It was on reserve tank, I was on the motorway and put foot down to overtake, almost like a braking feeling and the eps message came up on the dash saying "EPS Not currently available, please check the owners manaual" pulled over to the hard shoulder, restarted the car and it was better. I didn't check but putting my foot down agian.

Thirdly, I have an oil leak at the front. Loads of oil came out when I was parking. Do cars like mine have common areas where oil leaks?

I need to make sure I look after it. It's done 119K miles and wish for it to last a long time.

Look at your V5.

First 3 digits of the engine number identify the engine type ie. 651

for the car model look at the chassis# again the first 3 numbers are the model ie 204 is referred to as W204.

Welcome and as above
The EPS is likely an ABS wheel speed sensor failure, quite common or even a brake light switch will cause it
Oil- if there's loads of oil the sump may be leaking itself or through the sump bolt. You need to get it up on ramps soonest to have a look- if there is 'loads' indeed you may be there already with a seized engine....

Firstly Thank you for your warm Welcomes.

Secondly I took the under tray off and found that thhere was some oil seeping through around the washers of the bolt directly above the Anti Roll Bar. Other than that I found oil on the outside of the Boost pipes, I removed the boost pipes and found no oil inside (Thankfully lol)

Is this Engine oil or gearbox oil? As the sump is a bit further back (also dry).

Thirdly, today as I put my foot down to test the car, I get to 55 mph the car looses power and the EML light comes on. Earlier the car not only lost power but I was only able to regain it after restarting the car. First and second gear full throttle acceleration is no problems.

I can drive fine upto 70 or 80 mph when my throttle is upto 50% but when I "boot it" then the EML light will come on OR it will stutter and then a Orange triangle on the left of the speedo will show up.

I'm not too bothered about the Oil leak as I can't see it coming from anything major like turbo feeds etc (all dry) however this full throttle business is driving me mad (litterally)

So my questions are:

1) How can I read the EML codes - Do i need to buy a reader or can I do some sort of test or press some buttons to tell me what it might be lol.
2) I had the car tracking done and it's better in terms of being straight. (not 100% but better than before), my tyre pressures are at 34.5 psi all round (18" merc original amg alloys)
Could the tracking and tyre pressure set like above casue this problem? (remember, full throttle in first and second gear are fine)
3) How can I test the brake pedal switch incase it's causing an issue? (What are the multimeter readings i'm meant to get if any?)

Thanks for your help.

From the bottom it looks like it's an early om651. Oil down the nearside, I'd be looking for a leak at the inlet manifold to cylinder head joint. That'll give you a limp mode too

Thanks for that. I will have to have a closer look at the inlet mani.

I put the car on one of those obd2 scanners. Code p0087 was on it so I cleared it. Took it for a test drive and tried to emulate full throttle power cut issue but it was fine on a downhil slip road. Went on flat surface, down to about 50 mph then put my foot down and BAM, power cut and "ESP
Not operable, see owners manual"

Still no EML at this moment, so I checked the scanner for "pending faults" and there was P062b code which according to google is something to do with the fuel.

It makes sense to be a fuelling issue. Because when engine is not under load i.e downhill and I put full throttle down it is fine. But if im on flat or uphil then the car will loose power and misfire.

Sometimes I have to restart the car.

Problem is, where do I go from here?

I could:

1) fill tank and redex it ? (Weight of fuel might compensate for some lack of pressure ?)

2) replace the fuel filter but it has already been replaced three months ago on its last service.

3) where is the fuel pressure regulator or any sensors I might need to give a wiggle to? Maybe its loose plug i dont know.

What do you think?

Get it to a specialist Mercedes independent to have the codes read on Star then the guess work stops, you may end up throwing money at the problem ineffectually rather than pin point the issue. Where you based?

You're not far from me, i'm in blackburn. I recommend you get yourself a cheap j2534 usb device (about £15) and you can read the live data with Xentry. I have one and it's well worth the money, it's saved me probably about 2 to 300 quid so far.
