Hi, after some advice on what could possibly be causing this new issue that has recently cropped up with my c250. I use it for school run twice a day but always on the 2nd journey, same location (give or take half a mile) it starts bellowing a grey smoke when I am idle in a little traffic. The temp seems fine, no overheating, after a minute or so it clears. Occasionally it doesn't happen at all..but ive only ever seen it whilst on the return journey. Any clue on what it could be?

Hi a diesel car needs to be driven
Take it for a good drive
If you are only using for a couple of miles a day then you would be better with a petrol car

It hasn't been as far as I'm aware The smoke is pretty embarassing..I've had the breather valve changed incase that was jammed, didn't change a thing. I did have issues with my oil cooler leaking and had it replaced twice, 2nd time garage at fault due to gasket not fitted correctly causing a substantial leak. Then a week later I noticed steam from under the bonnet..coolant leak..had water rail replaced...leaked again...turned out rad pipe not fitted correctly. Then the car hadn't been used much due to lockdown so wondering if anything managed to seep into the exhaust. Its just weird that it happens in the same location. Going to take it for another long drive at decent mph tomorrow see if that resolves it ‍♀️

'Grey', is a bit ambiguous.

Try smelling it to see if it has a sweet smell, it may be coolant.

If coolant finds it's way into the intake track it will steam out of the exhaust, and have a sweet smell. Typically a small leak might sit down at the intercooler to be 'burnt off' after a while.

I've had a smokey exhaust on a DPF vehicle, due to excess oil consumption. The DPF doesn't last long though.

It's definitely not white, but not a sooty black that you'd get from a diesel. Its a dirty grey smoke that chokes. Some days its just a little trail out the pipe but other days it just plumes, it always clears within minutes.

Sounds like someone has removed the dpf + it isn't running right .

If dpf was present it would give lots of grief frequently.
