Dyno numbers are only to be used a tool IMO.

The only way that tool is useful is to measure the change before and after.

Trying to extrapolate performance numbers is difficult, as there are many different variables, the way the dyno measures power, back calculated losses, correction factors, ambient conditions, heatsoak etc.

Some different dyno manufactures read up to 50hp off from each other. So it should be used to compare absolute differences.

Bottom line is, if the car feels faster than it did before, then the map is doing its job. Whether the car was down on power in the first place is another question, but I would be inclined to think that if it was down on power, a map wouldn't "fix it". (boost leak etc). Essentially, the "low power" may come down to just inaccurate dyno measurement.

This year as you know- trip to MSL...my above post didn’t tell the ‘true’ story. Before the remap it was Dyno’d at 582 bhp stock, after 684 bhp....2 different dynos 22 bhp difference. OK some might be due to the particular fuel I had in blah blah, but I agree with your comments

One other thing, there is still somebody driving the car whilst its on the rollers! On my S65 they had to roll on the throttle below 3000rpm to stop it jumping off the rollers. This absolutely changes the numbers as the turbos have a lower load etc etc etc.

One other thing, there is still somebody driving the car whilst its on the rollers! On my S65 they had to roll on the throttle below 3000rpm to stop it jumping off the rollers. This absolutely changes the numbers as the turbos have a lower load etc etc etc.
And that is a very good point- Acid at MSL knows JUST how to tickle the car up to the correct rpm whilst keeping it on the rollers. The Dyno I had last year was part of a dyno day with all kinds of cars, generally souped up hatches c 200 BHP... you should have seen the panic when they saw the 63! The boss had to be found somewhere to do the driving (lackies drove the others), and I could see he struggled as I said earlier. All good fun :p

To be honest most of them came up to me and said “ did you just bring that to take the ****?” - in a good humoured way though!;)

Sorry what do you mean? Do they not do a rolling road before they update the car?
Oops, I didn't check what I'd written and looks like auto correct was having a mind of its own that day lol. I was trying to say they don't have a dyno so can't do a before and after.

If it helps, my 350 currently has a Celtic map on it, I'll be taking it to Acid in a couple of week and really look into it, I've got some work I need to do for MSL anyway so a day letting them fettle and play won't be a bad thing.

The MSL site does show a rolling road. I'm still waiting to hear back.

Around £350 at a guess, it's been a very long time since I had any work done at MSL

Had a good chat with MSL, looking at an extra 30bhp and 50ft/lbs with rolling road tuning for £450.
