I Have recently become the proud owner of a C250TD.I?m more than happy with the increase in performance/torque over my previous C180,I do however have one query. At tickover the whole car vibrates severely far more than I expected .I know diesel engines are less smooth at tickover than their petrol relatives but I wonder what comments other C250 owners might have on their cars .

C250 ROUGH IDLE

Hi Clive,

congrats on obtaining your c250td.  It must seem a world apart from a C180.   I can't say that I've noticed any sort of vibration at tickover on my TD.  You certainly know it's a diesel but it's definately not as "agricultural" as say a Mondeo or a Passat TD.   Did you buy it private or from a dealer ??

Mine's smooth (for an oiler) even at tickover- perhaps you've got an injector down? Bet Andy will tell you ;-).
welcome to the show. what year is your motor?

1996 C250TD Auto 63k aquamarine blue, sadly only steel wheels.... but still very nice!

I actually had an E250D, but lets not split hairs, having owned Diesels by other manufacturers, i have to say that the Merc version was the smoothest i've come across.

Have you checked the obvious:-

Water in fuel.
Blocked fuel filter.
Dodgey injector, (check all the unions on the high pressure lines)

Another thing to try is to warm the engine to operating temp, then "crack" the union on top of the injectors one at a time, a mere 1/4 turn should induce a misfire on that cylinder, if this makes the idle worse as you test each cylinder, then the problem isn't in the fuel line, if however one cylinder doesn't affect the idle, then this points to either the injector, or deaper withinn this cylinder, (i hope not for your sake!)

Keep us posted.

C250 ROUGH IDLE

    Gents
Thanks for your thoughts . My car is a late 99 model which I bought from a dealership in Cardiff and consequently carries a full year signature warranty. I made my choice after trawling the internet , the C250TD seems to be a bit of a rare beast and it proved a relatively easy way to find one. The purpose of the question was to gather information from other owners before visiting my local dealership. Just in case I met with the ?they all do that sir? response .
Perhaps I should explain the juddering  I have at tick over isn?t exactly at the level that you might lose your fillings but to me seems outside of the level you would expect from M.B .
