c250 sport fuel tank

hi chaps,any thoughts on this? if i let the fuel drop down under the half way mark on the gauge the car is really hard to start as if it's out of diesel,i know its not as i have filled it with 35 ltrs from half full.could the fuel pump pickup pipe be broken?is it an electric pump would it be a d.i.y job?

Sounds like the pump is having difficulty pulling the fuel through, the added volume in the tank helps gravity feed the system -

Check pipe seals and piping for air ingress.
