Looks like it's sucking air. This can take some finding as iften the joints or perforations are sufficient to suck air under vacuum but insufficient to leak a viscous fluid like cold diesel. It's worth checking for any chafing where pipes run close to other components or bodywork and pipe joints. I've had this several times before on diesel cars that often vibrate a fair bit which can end up chafing insecure pipes. If you have access to compressed air it's worth disconnecting both extreme ends of your fuel line, block one end off and pressurise it with air regulated to about 20 PSI while looking and listening signs of air escaping; this is much easier with someone to help you.

Hope you find this useful.

Regards,

Nick

Nicks post gives you some checks,,if the pipes are OK then the O rings where the pipes connect are leaking, they cost 40p each from MB.

What happens is that you can compress air, but not fuel, so when you try and start, the high pressure pump is only compressing the air, and cannot get the fuel through. the pipe with the air bubbles should be the one that is leaking
