Hi, new member here looking for any help I can get.

the blower has an intermittant fault where it will please itself when it works.
the fuse was ok so I went to the blower motor which was getting a live feed from the switch but not operating. I discovered that the blower would work if i gave it a manual spin to "kick start" it. I decided at this point that it was the motor so purchased a second hand one, £65, from Dronsfield Merc' of oldham.
fitted the replacement but still operated intermittant or with a "kick start".
decided then that it was the resistor pack ( voltage regulator? ). Dronsfield kindly exchanged blower for resistor, fitted there and then but no change swapped that one for another still no change.

the guy at dronsfield said it could be circuit board,£100, am reluctant to chang it untill have some more advice.

can anyone please, please help. does the controller give it a higher initial charge to "kick start" the fan?
had a trawl through the previous threads, frightened myself to death with all the diverse problems that occure.
cheers,
mick billy.

Is your control unit the one with the oblong display, or do you have the two large rotory knobs with the thumb wheels each side.

I think you could find that it is bad soldering in the N10 relay box, this box only needs re soldering and they are as good as new
If you are not good at this, find a local tv man and ask him to blanket solder the whole board, should not cost £20 . turn the fan on and tapping the box may make the fan start

thanks malcom,

sounds like it could be the solution as it came on a couple of times when the wife slammed the door. the only time i've enjoyed one of her tantrums. where do i find the relay? can i get to it from behind the radio? or from the footwell?
sorry to be a nuisance.
will let you know how i get on.

if u can turn it by and it works then i sugest it is the motor the brushes get badly worn and so springs cant press them against armiture which becomes burned and so results in poor connection if u remove motor and clean armiture it will work but brushes will be worn, second hand motor you got will have been same, ideally a new motor, very common problem, we fit about 1 per week,

sorry meant to say change pollen filter regularly, it clogs up resulting in people running the fan on high speed most of the time and so motor fails

Also have a read of these posts, it relatively easy, cheap and a quick fix to this known problem:

EDIT: links appear to have been truncated and are not working, but do a search as this is a common problem. On ebay, these are what you need:
