Hi, I have a 1997 P C250 TD.

I am experiencing lack of power so assume the maf sensor needs replacing.

I can get a Bosch one for £95+vat (Andrew Page motor factors) or a Pierburg for around the same price. I can also get a cheaper £50+vat Intermotor one.

My main questions are:

1) Does my car have a Maf sensor at all?

2) What is fitted originally and what is recommended to replace the original - bosch or pierburg?

I have been told that either the bosch will fit or the pierburg will be the right one, i.e they are different.

I have also heard this model doesnt have one, or that it has a MAP sensor - whatever that is.

It gets difficult as the car is in Holland (my brother's car) and I am travelling there on Thursday so I plan to buy the sensor here and bring some tools (torx sockets etc) and replace it there and then.

I have already replaced one, on my dad's E320 CDI and know its a 5 min job. That one was a Pierburg.

Anyhelp with the exact sensor I should buy will be appreciated! Thanks

There's no MAF.

To begin with, replace the fuel filters (tank strainer, pre-filter, and secondary filter), check the air filter, check, and if necessary adjust the throttle travel, and check that the air pipe from the turbo is intact.

ok thats bad news as I was hoping that would be the cause. Alot of other threads keep mentioning the MAF in relation to the 250TD?

If there isnt one then I shall buy a fuel filter and pre filter and try and fit one when I am over in Amsterdam.

I am driving there on Thursday, getting the ferry at 10am at dover and flying back to Liverpool the next morning so havn't got much time.

Can anyone tell me what tools I will need to change these??? Do you just undo a bolt at the top of the filter? What is the socket size?

If I cant fix it then its going to a Merc main dealer in Amsterdam..

Good news, I travelled to Amsterdam expecting the worst, however the loss of power was down to a loose jubilee clip on top of the engine on the main vacuum pipe. It was spitting oil everywhere but once reconnected and tight FULL POWER was restored - HAPPY DAYS!!
