C250TD Centre Console Back-Light out

Hi All
Can anyone please tell me how to change the bulb which illuminates the rear of the fan control switch. The Air direction dial is illuminated OK, and it looks weird, and not at all convenient, with one side of the console in darkness.
Someone told me the bulb is built into the PCB, and the whole unit needs to be replaced. This seems a ridiculous design, if this is the case, and I cannot believe it is true. Your advice would be much appreciated, as always. For your information my car is a W202 C250TD Auto Estate 1999 regd

I know that Audi lights are surface mounted onto the PCB, but I've soldered components onto a board that were formerly surface mounted, so its not impossible, it just requires steady hands and good equipment. Of course a stealer makes more money by supplying a new one, so they wouldn't be interested in doing that.
