Got a 1997 c250td. need to have the injectors tested. what is the size of long reach socket required? got that ole hot starting problem.. can the injector off test ( whatever that is) be done while the injectors are still in the head. someone said they were having a hot test and a cold test. not seen this in my haynes.

You did not say what mileage this car has done. This is a job for experienced fitters, long reach socket 27mm with 3/4 drive, when you have taken them out, you will see that there is a washer that the injector screws down to, make sure you notice which way up they are for fitting new ones, these must be replaced every time you take a injector out, you will then need to take them to where they service them for testing, refurbishing is about £25.00 each or you could exchange them .On refitting injectors you need a taught wrench, taught them down to 55ib ft or 75nm not for getting new washers, if you booked your car in they dont charge much for taking them out it's the servicing of the injectors that cost the money, hope this helps you. Good luck

It's MB special tool W606589000900

Which is a 22mm deep socket with space in the side for the leak off lugs. For an equivalent, see Ebay item 260402378655 (which is only a pound or so cheaper than the MB tool)

However, I'm not sure why you're taking them out.

If you do take them out, take care to keep the high pressure diesel system spotlessly clean - cap off the injector pipes as soon as you open them.

While you've got the injectors out, I would suggest you do a compression test - the test itself is quick and easy, while dismantling and preparing for it isn't.

On the OM605 and 606 engines, the injectors are centrally located, between the cams, and so, have to be a lot slimmer than the injectors fitted to the older diesels, like the OM603. The older diesels used a 27mm socket, the multivalves, 22mm.

I would keep going with replacing all of the cheap O rings before disturbing the injectors.
