Hello and welcome,,its possible that the battery was a little low causing it to lock up,,have you tried it again since. start the car and try it, if still locked up,let it run a while then re start and see

Haha thanks, i have loads of luck just all bad ! Anyway tried your advice. I left it sitting for atleast 45 minutes, reset it, and it still doesn't want to change gear! It wont change from S/W either! Its staying put with W. We put a meter on the battery when the engine was off and it read 12.6 ...?:-?

So the battery is fine,,do you have a good indie near you with STAR, I think that you must get the fault codes read out.

Possible seal on the box letting fluid into the ECU

Ask them how much they will charge to connect up to STAR, for that is what you need to do in the first place

I had a similar issue with my 2001 C270 but it would allow me to change between W / S mode. Took it to Merc in Coventry and they were completely incompetent. Then took it to an independent auto-box specialist and he managed to sort the problem. It needed auto transmission fluid as there wasn't any in the chamber (must have leaked).
