C270 cdi engine.

Hello again,
Well after two months of ownership of my C270cdi saloon avantgarde,I can only say," how much better can it get", enough power to tow my(Caravan) sorry.and miles per gallon keep getting better as the miles clock up, now at 13,500 miles and I love it.
What I dont understand is where is the 270cdi engine now? dont they fit it in the new cars.? If it is such a good engine why dont they use it now?

It need too much work to make it EU4 emissions compliant so was dropped.

In the E Class they use a V6 3litre engine in 2 states of tune, one badged as E280CDi and the other E320CDi. No idea why they never did that on the C Class - it left a big hole between C220Cdi and C320CDi.

However when the new C Class came out (W204) the C220CDi was bumped up in power and torque so it was the same and the old C270CDi, even with 1 cyl less. Also, there's now C250CDi, an even more powerful version, just starting to appear in the showrooms.

I tow a van with my C220(and a boat & Jetski) .....excellent tow vehicle !!

After looking at the stats .......the 220 was the only vehicle for me !

Thanks for that, What weights do you tow and what engine do you have in the car, excuse my lack of knowledge in engine matters.

My Car is the C220CDi ....which is a 2.2 deisel ............... 170BHP, and 400llb of torque

The heaviest thing I tow, would be the Van @ 1500Kg's .......... it does the job loverly

It compares very well against my wifes 5 series BMW ...... which has a slightly wider wheelbase (although not a lot in it)
