hi guys, right here we go....... over the last few months this noise/vibration has got worse, when the car is cold the noise starts about 2200 revs and really is a strong vibration, when the car warms up it seems to go. however when the car gets really warm and at the same rev band i try to accelarate the revs go up and suddenly drop to about 2200. and this gives the impression that its a manual and im trying to keep it in a lower gear and use the torque.

if i then continue to press the pedal it eventually drops down a gear and goes like stink.

this is a very difficult one to describe sorry.

Paul

I would unplug the Maf first and try the car, the noise though is the mystery bit

Could be 2 problems, I thought about the noise and vibration, but the pulling power should not be affected

The reference to 'going like stink' sounds like a sudden downshift to me.............which might be a symptom of erratic behaviour due to contamination of the atf with glycol....

thanks for the replys, i have had a glycol test done and no prob, the going like stink is yes when it eventually kicks down, but its does not do this until im pressing almost to kick down switch.

i think personally that it could be torque converter related, oil or machanical problems, forgot to add its 2005.

the fault is reallly hard to describe, when it does it its almost like its stuck in gear and been held back, ie no torque.......

I still think that it is a MAF fault and the gearbox does not know what to do

- It's easy enough to check the MAF, - if only to eliminate it as a possible cause.

Had a think about this overnight...

Could it also be turbo related? Problem with the actuator diaphragm? Causing the turbo to suddenly kick in?

Blocked Cat could cause noise around the gearbox tunnel?

Have you had the codes read?

I would suggest that the vibration could be down to engine mounts. These 270 engines are quite "vibraty" and old mounts can and do transfer lots of NVH.
