Hi, I have a C270 CD1 Auto (2005) Avantgarde. I have had the car since 32k miles and now had covered 80k. In the 2.5 years owning the car I have always maintained that the car has differing performance. I provide the following to help better describe the issue/s.
1] Most occasions the car sounds rough to me when attempting to make the car move off more swiftly. The revs seems excessive and sounds terrible. Its like I am thrashing the car and getting nowhere quick.
2] There are occasions when the car performs like a dream. When this happens the car is MUCH MUCH quieter in acceleration and is responsive.
3] Friends who have followed me say that I must be flooring the gas pedal everywhere as they can see puffs of black smoke from the rear. I was not pushing the car.
4] at night I can see huge clouds of smoke in the rear mirror when the car is misbehaving. When car is performing there is smoke but very little and acceptable.
5] I feel that the car (when I try to move off swiftly) struggles, is much noisier, revs tend to peak out too early rather than giving any torque power and does not change gear efficiently.
Lovely car, my first Mercedes and I am really disappointed - WHY ????
Well, I have taken the car in 4 times to 2 different Merc Dealers. Both think there is nothing wrong with the car. "We put it on the computer and got all green ticks". I accept that the diagnostic machine is happy but both dealers failed to find : (1) a broken hose housing (2) a split turbo inlet hose.
Since then I have had all hoses and pipes etc rechecked.
I used to own a Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 TDi (150 bhp).
Hand on heart but this car drove consistently everytime, even from cold. Power, performance and no excessive engine noise. Admittedly, the car did smoke a little when I gave it some "whelly" but nothing like my Merc. The Vectra I had from 22k miles and sold it at 156k miles. have to admit that i enjoyed driving this Diesel car that I decided due to the mileage I do I would opt for a BMW or Merc. By the way. The 1.9 Vectra would leave my current Merc standing.
Both my brothers have Merc. An E320D - Sounds wonderful and performs but I don't compare my car to this engine.
Other brother has a C220D. Same model, same year only different engine size. He leaves me standing.
I am looking for a Merc Diesel specialist. I am prepared to leave the car with them so that they can observe the differing behavior of the car.
I live in Bedfordshire but willing to travel to get this car fixed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated but I do not wish to take the car back to a Merc Dealer again if it can be helped.
I just need an experienced Diesel engineer that would investigate further than just the diagnostic computer.
Thanking you in Advance for any help.
