When they say leaking, do they mean lots of oil around the inlet to the turbo and lots of oil in the induction tubes contaminating the MAF. Does the rubber tubing from the turbo look like its dirty with oil etc.

If so they all do it and according to Mercedes its meant to be this way, when the air flow meter gets covered in oil and stops working properly then they will replace it rather than clean it.

Where are you in the UK?

no what they said was that the seals were leaking and that you cannot replace just the seals i need to replace the whole turbo unit..........cheers..they did say it should be ok for 6 months are they just being over cautious as a main dealer.i mean the service plus a few extra bits come to £900 notes and then they tell me i need a new turbo soon as well all this on a car thats done 60000 miles...//

anyway if i do i think i will get my local garage to fit it ...gotta be cheaper...

I had my turbo checked at my indi when the car was serviced just before Christmas, the turbo has oil stains around the inlet and I was concerned, Chris had a look at it and said that there is nothing wrong with it they all do this at some time in their life.

leaking turbo where?

It depends, if the oil seal on the shaft, yes exchange unit, if oil coming out of the inlet side housing , could be engine crank case gas carrying oil to the area.

For what it is worth on the fleet of trucks at work, 25 class2 and 50+ 7.5t, the spanner monkeys never change turbos for leaky seals. (their view is don't change until the instantaneous fog bank behind dictates.

My question is does it whistle, howl more than it use to as this is a byproduct of turbine imbalance, which is an early sign of impending failure.
