Hi,

today on my way home from work, I noticed a ticking noise under acceleration. When I pulled over and checked under the bonnet I found the serpentine belt had started to come apart. A couple of months ago, I bought a replacement belt from my local dealer, and gave it to my local garage to fit during some other work. However the belt came back, as they said it was too short. I took it back to MB but they said it was the only belt available for my car and the mechanic wasn't trying hard enough!!! So, today I tried it myself, and low and behold, it is too short by 2-3". Does anyone have the correct part number?

The Belt they originally gave me was MB part no 010 997 9192. This is also a contitech belt but rather than the ECP part no Conti-V 6 PK 2260, the MB one has Conti-V 6 PK 2190. The Latter no is the length in mm. So no wonder it won't fit. On my way to MB now, with a belt without packaging, and no reciept (wonder what the outcome will be!!!).

Theres a good chance they asked for your reg no when you bought the belt so replacement should not be a problem.

Success, the part no on their system was incorrect, ECP was correct. Belt fitted OK. But disappointed that they had the cheek to charge me £3 extra despite this taking 3 visits (each being a 30 mile round trip!), when one should have been enough!
