Quite a while ago, while installing the rear window tint, I got some soap
water on the speakers under the rear windshield. Before I had turned the
car off, I had forgotten to turn the radio off before doing this work.
When I went to start after finishing the tint work, I started the car
and I heard a long BEEEEP and the radio and the stereo went dead.
You can imagine how much pieced I was to have fried my Bose stereo
and amp system. I was cursing at myself for longest time )
That was then.... I had removed the amp recently, opened it and
checked carefully to see if anything on it was burned. But the PCB
and all the installed components looked like brand new. So, I figured,
it must not be the amp.
I connected the amp back on and the radio started working only in
mono mode meaning only driver side front speaker was working. This
went on for several months.
In the back of my mind, I was saying, it just doesn't make sense that
it is not working.
So, Then yesterday eve, I decided to reset my "Check Engine" light which
was on for zillions of years by diconnecting the battery. So, I disconnected
the battery for few minutes and connected it again and YOOHOO,
my stereo is working again.
This morning, when I started driving, initially only the LF speaker was
working, but later on, all the speakers came on. So, I must have a loose
contact.
So, my question is,
Does the car/engine diagnostics keep track of the faults on the radio
and stereo system also (I don't see any reason why engine diagnostics
should do that) or there is some other parallel diagnostic system which
does?
Second q, Is there a relay which was may be reset (and needed to be
reset) when I disconnected the battery? (and hence my stereo started
working)
As always, thank you all for your help.
Thanks,
Arv.
