Every car on it’s own merit I’d say.
I’ve only bought privately once in my life, and that was via contact on this very forum. Personally I would normally avoid it but that’s just as I prefer some kind of review or knowledge of the vendor. I’d buy from most of the regulars on here if they had a vehicle I was interested in.
My 63 came from a non Mercedes dealer but with full MB history- I’d only ever buy a Mercedes with that history or if a bit older with service history from a known Mercedes independant (often that’s a much better indicator to how well looked after the car has been than MB history!) Hope that helps in some way
Oh and travel- hell yes- my SL came from Lyme Regis and the 63 from Essex, both considerable distances but worth it!

Thanks John. I have seen a lot of autotrader cars from dealers and garages, it's just that you hear a few horror stories. The problem I can see with uk wide dealers is if you have to go back because of a fault. But like you say service history is key. Yes, very helpful thanks.

I bought my C350 privately but did a full check on it from the dealer it was serviced by (Basingstoke), also had an HPI done, had no issues at all

What John said. Look for an extensive bills & receipts file. When I bought my 211, it was because it had a complete service history from mth 37 to date at the same garage, and I could see that nothing had been skimped on. New parts as required, good quality NB spec oils and fluids etc. That made up for the high mileage.

The thing is, these cars do eat up the miles alright. As long as they’re serviced on the button and things are not left “for next time” they just keep going.

Good point- HPI check is worth the money, I use ‘Total car check’ which is similar, when you’re in the market register, buy a number of vouchers to do a few checks on vehicles you’re serious about...

Thanks again for the advice, I will read up on things to check, would rather gain some knowledge now than last minute the day before. The last car I purchased second hand was a 1991 Astra GTE 16v, cars have changed a lot since then!

Will do thanks. It's a worrying thought looking for cars. A chap I know at a local garage did say he would be happy to come along, but only fairly local.

I always do "Due Diligence", I have a trader friend so he did it for me but it is essential when buying ANY car these days.

I went into it having googled the seller, looked on FB as well. Always good to have piece of mind

Sound advice. Just noticed that you have a GAD edition, what is this? How does your 350 pull on motorways, does it effortlessly move past other cars?

My car has been mapped by GAD Tuning so pushing out 300bhp and 700 torques, it is rapid and in gear acceleration is epic

Wow, so did you start at 230 or 260ish bhp. What is your 0-60 time? Do you have any regrets doing this? is GAD one of the better options, and is this a proper remap?

Mine is the 231bhp model, no idea about 0-60.

Not a single regret at all, makes a fast car into a very fast car.

GAD are a forum sponsor and it is a proper bespoke re-map

does the GAD remap take the 231 and the 262 models and take them to same output?

No the 265 goes to 310bhp and 720 torques
310 is impressive, but more so is the 720 of torques! That must be proper eyes pushed into the back of the skull!
