Hi,
Continuing on from a previous thread I thought I would post up my own, rather than be seen to take the other "off topic" ;).
I have this morning booked my car in to have the discs skimmed in situ on the car as it has developed a "shimmy" on braking in the last six months.
http://www.skimmydiscs.co.uk/why-skim-your-discs/
I am wondering whether I should replaced the pads at the same time, I have at present fitted EBC Red which I do not like,
So my alternatives are:
ATE at £112
Textar at £62
Pagid at £43.14
These will be less forum discount from Euros, or do I go with OEM MB.
My instinct is OEM MB but at over £140 a set, and with Xmas round the corner and having just paid to have the car resprayed money is a tad tight at the moment, any thoughts on which ones to go for as I thought all the makes that Euros can supply have at one time or another have been OEM to MB.
Incidently the Pagid ones are in stock at the two most local branches to me, and the other two are in company stock but would need to be ordered in to my local store.

"Buy cheap, buy twice"

I would favour the MB pads, designed as a system, got to be the better complete solution?

Do they measure the disc before they skim them, you can loose a lot of metal if they are out of true.

There is another danger in that cast iron can go out of true, and indeed it does, just as yours have. Now what can also happen is they can revert back to how they were if got really hot, one needs to examine the disc for microscopic cracks, these can be on the inside.

The last set of disc on my V70r went out of true after a very hard stop as they can,,, another hard stop put them back to where they were and they ran true.

The car went for is MOT and they went out of true on the rolling road, so bad that they would not pass them and they got changed that day. Sure enough there were the tell tale signs of cracks near the center on the inside. tapping the disc all over produced different sounds in different areas.

So do think twice be fore deciding on what to do
