It's not a loose undertray, is it? Especially if it has been lowered, it may have snagged a speed bump or two and loosened front or rear edge...
thanks will get that checked also when i ask garage to check springs are not stock, don't think I can get under safely to check at home.

Drive it up a set of ramps. Park with 2 wheels on the kerb/footpath. Jack it up as if taking the iffy wheels off. Ask the tyre guys to put it up on trolley jack/lift whilst there. Then look underneath.

thats a fair point and didn't think of that, its quite noticeable and you can hear it at low speeds even when not windy so thought it was more bad tyre noise hence the tyre change to get rid of run flats, could be rubbing but doesn't get more frequent as such when going fast so not sure it's that either, could actually be wind noise via a seal somewhere and nothing to do with any of this but disappointing its not stock, they garage is a very reputable high end performance specialist who sold the car, it was a part-ex for a 6 month old RS6 they had so suspect they didn't know either, will see what they say.

My run flats are not noisy, most are not, I believe the early examples first fitted to BMW's were, hence the bad reputation, which is no longer valid.
In the interest of science I just compared my run flats which are 255-35 x 19 Goodyear F1's and rated at 67db to the non run flat version which is rated at 71db!

Not sure if to look at replacing the fronts for pirelli non run flat same as rear or look at sticking PS4S all round, would obviously cost more and may not fix either buffeting or crabbing

Will probably make it better as the sidewalls on non RF are softer, will also make the ride considerably better

I’ve covered about 3000 miles in the BMW since changing from run flats to MIchelin PS4 tyres and although they are XL rated the ride has softened nicely since fitting and the car drives very well. My initial thoughts on the PS4 tyres was that the ride wasn’t that much better than the run flats but all good

thanks for that and yes that's my initial thoughts that it's similar but haven't been that far as yet and maybe they need to bed in a little.

Hi All.

New to the forum and new to my C43, had it around 3 weeks now, not done too many miles to date.

I did post in the new members Intro section with some photos but not sure if the post needs to be moderated before it appears.

Anyway I have a few niggles that I would like to share to see if anyone else has hit the same problems, will be calling merc later in week to try and get it booked under warranty.

1. Rear external door handle light not working as seen in pics.

2. Creaking coming from somewhere in back, hard to pin point while driving, not even 100% sure it's from rear if I'm honest.

3. When going 70mph / motorway speeds there is an annoying buffeting noise like if you had a window open, can't feel any draft or wind however and no whistling of any kind, could it be tyres rather than wind? it's very annoying to the point if makes your ears hurt.

4. standard crabbing when cold and on tight turns, can be quite bad.

thanks

The tyre crabbing is easily fixed by replacing tyres for Michelin sport 4 tyres..... I had this on my C43 Coupe and before on a CLA 250, both times easily fixed. I had Dunlop on before and Conti's on the other car..... I know a few people who have had the same advice and is a known fix for them too.

The creaking in the back is usually the door card around the speaker's, again had that too, but can differ for some.

Hope it helps

I don't understand. If they can't torque the wheels bolts to the correct value, the car should not be driven! Not sure how they can say "drive slowly and it will be ok......"

yes I had the same concern, turns out the receptionist giving me the message was wrong, they couldn't balance one wheel as the spacer was stuck to the back of the wheel, all sorted now that part at least.

car booked in at merc for rest in a couple of weeks time

I had tyre skipping on my W205 4MATIC with factory fitted Pirelli summer tyres and after a letter of complaint in December ’18, they were replaced with Continental summers under warranty.

Since fitting the replacement Conti’s I have had absolutely no problem with crabbing or skipping.

However, I am still wondering if apart from replacing the tyres did they also replace the steering knuckle (as in the above link) or re-adjust the steering geometry.
Mercedes have confirmed they only changed the tyres on my car which is somewhat surprising and they added that the knuckle replacement only applied to the GLC.

Although the Conti’s have been great, they do wear rather quickly, and I will be replacing them this year with Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

I've had no skipping/crabbing issues since the tyre change as well, happened every time with old tyres not a single occurrence since the change

Hi Neal, how do the Michelin Sport 4 tyres compare to the ones you had before; wear, noise and comfort wise?

I never had any trouble with skipping/crabbing until this winter and it has been very bad this year in cold weather. Probably entirely due to me needing new fromy tyres which are now down to 2mm so they will be replaced shortly. Currently got Michelin Latitude Sport 3 which were the original figment (and have lasted 25k+ miles). Rears are still on 4+mm. I wanted to get some Michelin All Seasons, which get very good reviews, but they seem as rare as hen's teeth at the moment,

Just a quick update as the car has been to Merc today

1. LED door handle light fixed under warranty, just in case anyway wants to know the price if not under warranty see below, this was the service report.

2. Noise wise they couldn't find anything and said all they could hear was normal road noise, was very windy today also. They did also note on the report the car has non standard spring H&R plus spacers ao wouldn't investigate any suspension, but the tech said they appeared to be fitted correctly and not making any unexpected nosies etc, so will see how it goes.

Hi Woodleigh,

So on my C43 i had them fitted for nearly 18 months before i sold the car on for a CLA45's shooting Brake (pictures are in the media area somewhere). I thought they were a lot softer initially and thought they would wear out pretty quick. It turns out they wear quite well and would of lasted me another year i reckon ( or the new owner of the car). I did find they gripped better in all conditions, and will stick to them going forward on any tyre changes i need to make. My new CLA45's has them as standard and got to say i'm impressed again. also think there is lower road noise from them on both cars......

Not sure if the deal is still going but i bought them last time through Pro tyre using Qidco cashback, and got a a Michelin deal where you buys 2 tyres over 18" and you get £40 quid back..... i think i paid about £240 after discount and cashback fully fitted for the C43 rears.....

hope this helps

Neal
