Depends how patient you are. I'd have the C43 as it's a V8, not a straight 6.

Your other thread had a link to a C43 didn't it?

Yes there was a link to one in Ireland . The other one on eBay was a bit too cheap for my liking having seen what good ones go for. I love working on cars but done want to be replacing gearboxes etc right after buying one :(

Would you consider an estate c32?

I have my heart set on a saloon. I have a subaru legacy estate gtb now which os running about 290hp but being an estate it just does not feel the same as flinging the saloon version around :(

C63 Wagon in black
I would say go with a v8. But there is a very reasonable C32 estate going for the right money I know of. And they are a keeper

The C32 is a very quick car!!!! But the v8 is a v8

Decisions decisions

Ok, it's just that a pal of mine is finishing a resto project, including full respray, of a C32 wagon.

Personally though I am biased, wait for the right C43 AMG (202), I have never taken to the 203, especially in preface lift form, besides there is no other sound quite like the V8, have you thought about a 210 facelift E55 AMG or possibly a 208 CLK 55 AMG, the CLK 208 is after all only a 2 door coupe version of a 202, but with the added cubic capacity of a 55 engine.

I have looked at the e55 and the c55 but the e55 is quite bigger so I would sat it would be not as good in the corners. The whole thing that started me looking was my brother who worked for greenoaks in slough saying how great the c43 was when it came out. Looking at all the amg models since. Personally I think the c43 is the best looking out of the lot. with the square headlights anf aggressive lines it just looks mean. Plus u agree after hearing clips of the engine therr is not another amg that sounds like it. Unless you have thousands to spend on a c63 or something. I guess I am just a bit to late as therr were not many of them.made and as with all good cars they usually get kept in the family :(

What about a C36 W202. The 202 is a more robust car than the 203

Yea, and a couple of people I know who have had both the 36 and the 43 say the 36 feels quicker, dispite the figures

Can't say that was my experience TBH - I even had a friendly sprint against a pristine 36 and it wasn't even really that close. And to my mind, nice as it sounded it wasn't a patch on the V8 I'm afraid  I still miss mine very very much :( Good ones are really really rare these days - the CLK55 I had afterwards was nice though, it's just the terrible rust issues that you have to live with if you own a W208 from that era. If you can find a good one and protect it properly then that's another car I would recommend as a great driving experience :) Good luck whatever the case though - hope you find what you're looking for.

Cheers,
Mark

I think they might be a bit too old. This has to be a daily driver. Plus correct me if I'm wrong wasn't the c43 the only amg that was totally stripped and rebuilt at amg as opposed to just being tuned there?

Well don't forget that 43 engine is more or less the same as found in the standard e430's and clk430's, so like the c36 (which is more or less just an e320 engine) its just been fiddled with in some way. Doesn't really matter though, just test drive a few models and buy what you fancy!

Yes, you're right - the C43 was indeed the first proper AMG off a production line so to speak. If the provenance is legit on this one then it looks like a nice example: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...-t-mercedes-benz-c-class-c43-4dr-auto/1433380 - bit pricey, but I'm sure you could haggle them down in this economic climate. If you're in that area then it might be worth a go-see and test drive at the very least whatever the case though.

Cheers,
Mark

Well yes and no - yes, it's basically an MB 4L V8, but AMG did a fair amount of tweaking on it at the end of the day that included changes to cams, valves, engine management, pistons and crank etc - it's actually a pretty long list of changes. Essentially an extension of what they did to the 6 cylinder lump in the 36 though yes.

Doesn't really matter though, just test drive a few models and buy what you fancy!

Can't argue with that :) If it makes you smile then that's the main thing :p

Cheers,
Mark
