If the tyres need changing then what's wrong with sticking to the stock width tyres? Or are you having grip issues? Bear in mind that wider tyres perform worse in bad weather, are more liable to tramlining and also generally give a harsher ride - not sure if any of that matters to you but might be worth bearing in mind before you go too mad? ;)

Just me 2p,
Mark

I think the car will be a CLK55, 255 is the standard width on AMG wheels, but as Mark above why go wider

Malcom, there is a C55 AMG, but I have only seen it in estate form, from that I,d assumme that there must be a saloon versions, but I ve not seen one. Bar that I can be of no help, know absolutly nothing about them.

Many components are the same anyway for the 203 and 209, so 255 will still be the widest

The car is a C class C55 AMG saloon im having grip issues as the car does not grip the traction is always on, there are a few about but mainly estates. i think ill stick with stock tyres as i dont want the ride to be harder than it already is. thank you all for your comments.

I am going down one size on the 285 wide tyres on my SL.

By going down to 275m I can up the profile a touch and get a better ride. Wide tyres offer poor grip for the best part

I need 2 new rears and have been happy with the Michelin Pilot Primacy HP 225/50 R16 92W. However, been unable to siurce these since early Jan as all retailers say they are out of stock at Michelin and no firm date for new stock. Any ideas what else I should use? Would prefer long-life and smooth quiet ride.

In one of the biggest tyre test ever don the Primacy HP was 2nd, the other tyres that did well was the Conti Contact 2 that was more comfortable than the Primacy by 1 point, and the German made Pirelli P7 (not the Italian version)
