Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows the cost of a Minor and Major level B service(s) is? I'm getting quoted at least £800 for a major service, but not sure what to make of it.

Also, any advice on installing a new gearbox, at the moment I have a C55 with a 4/5 speed and was wondering what the logistics of putting a new, say 9-speed gearbox would be. Is it worth it, would it make a huge impact or have I just lost my mind?

Also, for some reason, the previous owner to the one previous installed a C63 exhaust system, which I want to either upgrade or restore back to original with cat and resonator mods. Can anyone suggest a good exhaust system, may be a newer one - would it work?

I am also in need of replacing the front bumper, is there anywhere in particular I can get one from, OEM is £800?

You may be thinking why I bought this, but I got a really good price :)

Thanks for your help.

Hmmm- lots of questions there!
Servicing : Major service in itself is variable (some include and ATF change for instance), so dependant on mileage etc £800 could be good (or bad). Are we taking main dealer or Independant specialist?
Gearbox : I doubt it’s possible to fit a 9G box anyway but even if you could the cost would be sky high and certainly wouldn’t increase the car value by anywhere near the same
Exhaust : Powerflow do excellent systems from various uk locations which are custom to what you want
Bumper : ebay is your friend or you could trawl the specialist breakers like Dronsfields
General : @alexanderfoti on here is based your way and about to venture into business so would be a good person to be in touch with

Welcome to the forum Davinder.

As above, I'd just add, Servicing on a 13 year old car at the main dealer is pretty pointless and will cost you double in labour charges compared to a good MB independant. If Alex mentioned above isn't up and running yet, Id check out Terry at Wayne Gates in Harrow for your service. He can also update your service book and use all OEM parts. I would think you are looking at around £400+ at an indy for the same job.

As above, forget the gearbox idea. You have a good strong, albeit slow thinking 5 speed gearbox already fitted. The cost of the gearbox alone would be prohibitive, let alone the changes needed with gearbox software and the physical size.

Re the exhaust, the previous owner probably fitted the C63 boxes to give a better V8 sound. Many 55k owners aspire to to the same. You would have no problem selling the parts either on the forum or eBay.
If you want quieter, a couple of bespoke stainless rear boxes would fit the bill but wouldn't be cheap. EMP Performance in St Albans deal in Powerflow and are recommended.

If you don't want an OEM bumper at £800, eBay is your friend for either a used one or an aftermarket one. Allow for £150 or so to repaint.

A few v8 Amg
Hi Davinder kiddah ?

Mb Guildford offer a 40% labour discount on cars over six years old for servicing, I have just paid £243 labour only for a B service including air filters, brake fluid and rear diff oil with me supplying all my own oem parts for my w204 c63

The parts cost me circa £150 plus the £243 labour = circa £400, My local dealers quoted £800+ for the service

Mobilo is also renewed for another year with every service -

A local Mb indie quoted more than Mb Guildford for the labour element of the service

I have one of my w202 c43 Amg booked in for an A service next week costing me £100 labour I will supply oem oil and filter

Mb Guildford are cheaper than most Mb specialists for cars over six years old -

Thanks for the help.

I will look into this @me_amg thank you.

@AMGeed it is Wayne Gates I was getting the quote from, I was just a little shocked, so wanted to double check. It's close to me, and seems like it'll be the same sort of price at MB Guildford.

The gearbox was just an idea, but I had a feeling it wasn't going to work. The current one is slowing down and shifting is longer between, maybe it just needs a clean out.

Bumper, I will have to search long and hard, I haven't found anything so great so far, but will keep searching, not so important currently, though does look horrible. I may add a carbon fiber lip.

Exhaust is definitely an area I want to improve, the current exhaust system is a x-pipe, and one side is a lot more dirtier than the other. I'm also looking for more of a modern sound, deep, with a little kick back, which I'm not receiving currently. I was advised to go back to the original system with cat and resonator mods. I have spoken to powerflow, thanks to @John Laidlaw and will be meeting them to discuss things. A similar sound to the new C63 would be lovely for that engine. But we'll see how this pans out.

I am also thinking of a paint detail, but not sure if it's worth it for such an old car and if it's a daily driver.

I've also heard a lot that the value of these cars will increase - has anyone seen any evidence of that so far?

Again, thanks a lot for the help, much appreciated.

Have the oil changed

Can it not be repaired?

I was going to suggest an X-pipe, this is what the V8 SL guys put on

Yup, gives it a level of protection you can maintain

Yup, saw a loaded one in immaculate condition for £12k[/QUOTE]

Did they give a breakdown of the estimate Davinder?
Your car must be at the mileage/age/service interval that needs most of the extra jobs doing over a minor service.
Plugs (16 of them) is probably a £200+ job, ATF another £160+, Brake Fluid and coolant change plus fuel, air and pollen filters and the dreaded VAT, plus the oil/filter change and the vehicle check over then yes, I can believe £800.
I'd be interested to see a breakdown too.

Not sure if the bumper can be repaired, I will take a picture of it this weekend and post it, I've looked at it and it may be difficult, or it maybe cheaper and easier to get repaired.

Wayne Gates mentioned the price would be based on the type of service, minor is £400 and major is £800, he did reel off a few things that are included, most of which are what you've mentioned. I was just wondering if that would in fact be the price - there or there about. I have to check the book to see what and when the last service(s) were. Major level B service is every 4 years from what I've been told, does that sound right?

@JBell can you suggest any detailing places?
