- C43 Estate 2016
I have been enjoying my C63 Estate for 10 months now, having covered nearly 15000 miles and accumulating a lot of Shell points (and a speed awareness course!) Most has been motorway miles and the average mpg is over 22 on those runs dropping to 16 if on a short trip to town. I have 2 rules, don't start the car just to move it a short distance and never exceed 2000 rpm until the oil is up to temp.
So far I've changed the gearbox oil and engine oil and filters, replaced two rear tyres and had new disks up front (ouch!) and a nsf wheel bearing. Richard Hollings of York has done the work and I can't recommend them too highly.
However, I have a question that Richard couldn't answer:
After the car has started from cold and the temperature has risen above 60 the first time that the vehicle stops (at a junction or lights for example) there is the sound of a high pressure pump that runs for around 30 seconds rising in intensity after the first 15 seconds. The sound is similar to the sound an aircraft makes when it is lowering its landing gear and it only happens once per journey. Occasionally I can travel perhaps 60 miles or more without stopping and then there it is, the one off sound of a high pressure pump. I'd love to know what it is.
