Hi all

A longs shot but anyone any experience here? The cabriolet boot is tiny and we are planning a two week European tour - my wife does not travel light!!! Thinking of getting some made to maximise the space and I wonder if any members have experience or recommendations - or just a workaround which is more sophisticated than my current plan B which involves ramming in various soft luggage and sitting on the boot lid to close it!

Thanks John, appreciate it. I like the look of the back seat bags, but the cost! Not even AMG branded but I can't see Merc handing their logo out for peanuts. I've been talking to Colin Surman at https://bag-world.co/ and spent a fun half an hour measuring. And re-measuring. Couldn't be uniform could it?!

I might go down the bespoke route and will update this forum with pics and opinions if I do. 4-6 weeks lead time. Still the car's a keeper so we might as well do this right.

I use Montrose Jura bags in my SLK
Really high quality (made for offshore) and made in Scotlandshire :)

I’m waiting for a little sale on those babies :D
I wouldn’t hold your breath... small firm in Scotland competing against Far East factories. I know where I’d rather spend my ££. The price isn’t that much difference but the back story to where your ££ goes is vastly different.

Some years ago we booked a 19 day trip across the top of Northern Spain and back, through the Alps to Lourdes then up through France (slowly) to Calais, in the 968 cab. Dug out every case and soft bag we had (with the cab on the driveway) then played jigsaw puzzles to see what we could fit into the boot and under the wind deflector over the rear +2 seats behind the driver and passenger seats. All done with kitbags rather than soft or hard shell suitcases, but the effort was worthwhile (despite the fact that wife normally requires the S204 and trailer for a weekend away!!). It was a case that everything had it's exact place in the car, we quickly got used to unpacking at the hotel and re-packing next morning - had to as the trip was 2600 miles in the 19 days, and only in 4 places did we stay for more than 1 night! Will have to pull the same trick sometime with the SLK, but already know there's less luggage space in the SLK if you want to be able to drop the roof!

you gave a nice review too!
Those look great actually:)
I’d forgotten about that...
They will do custom bags and colours / logos etc. I’ve a 61 and a couple of 44’s I use in the SLK under the boot separator.

Tried that - so I get given the one bag for the boot, then as we're about to set off she appears with handbag and 2 large carrier-type bags "I'll put these by my feet or behind my seat". Cue fun, she insistes on having the SLK seat as far back as it will go, so no space behind, sonn as I go to move it forward.....

I have no issues forcing in soft bags, if lovely makes herself uncomfortable cos of stuffin in bags I dont worry much about that .I get u !! But no hard bags go in any of my car interiors except rear of 4x4 even 20 yr clk! Whilst at it, no eatin in my cars either.fag lighter gets hid away soon as I buy a car it dont go back in until sale time.

I have another wife who dose not travel light, the two CLK's were fine. But when the second came up for replacement the boot on the E class coupe was too small. So ended up buying a 212 E class saloon.
The SLC is not too bad for weekends, we have a hard case that just about fills 90% of the boot.

I expected that once we were away from carrying prams, pushchairs and all the garb associated with rug rats, we could get away from estate cars. Youngest is now 35 and we still have an estate car as our main car!!

I’ve had estate cars for years, even well before our rugrat, just ****** useful spaces

I agree Matty, makes life so much easier on the supermarket run or taking herself away for a weekend, luckily I have the SLK for fun driving!

Mine doesn't travel light either which, turned out to be a blessing.

When we left Australia I sold my (daily driver and touring) SLK 350 (R172) with the understanding that I'd be replacing it here (UK). Given the car prices in Australia, I could have got the same year AMG (SLK55) or a newer 350 for the $$ I got for my car in OZ.

I started shopping around and wifey said: "are you serious about another SLK?" ..me: "yes"..wifey: "it is too small".....me: "you agreed and I'm getting a 2 seater" ....wifey: "do they make them bigger?".....me grinning from ear to ear : "Oh yes".

Sat her in a SL and she was sold. Came down to the fact that there was space behind her seat for a coat etc and space at her feet for her handbag........:)
