C180K 2006 M271
Hello ,

I have a 2006 C180 kompressor (W203.046 type) , with 271.946 engine.

I noticed the cam sensors were leaking oil and their electric connectors got oily (see attached pics). I've read somewhere that this is serious as eventually the oil makes it all the way into the ECU and O2 sensor through the wiring harness .

A few years back Mercedes issued a quick fix in the form of an isolation extension cable to go between the sensor and the rest of the harness.

Car was built 11/2006 . I'm positive the problem affected earlier cars with same engine but not sure If this has been rectified ? Should I run and get isolation cables along with new cam sensors ? .

A mechanic suggested just putting in new O-rings for those sensors and that should do it ,would that fix it ?

Cheers.

Oil found in harness

UPDATE : Yes , it turns out that even 2006+ cars with M271 engines suffer this. I had mine examined today and a pool of oil was found in the cam sensor connector and we even found oil on the ECU coming through the harness! luckily we caught that before more oil fried it.

I'm extremely disappointed with MB . Such a popular known issue that happens to be catastrophic and develop rapidly (10 days ago there were no signs of any oil and now its in the ECU !) , and of course this does not show up as a fault on the dashboard or a diag computer !.

I'm also disappointed with the dealer who did not have the courtesy to install those cheap cables although I bought the car brand new from them and they are aware of the issue . They never offered them as a paid service option either.

Check your engine , if it is an M271 , make sure you have the isolation cables (started lines) installed . MB part #A 271 150 27 33 .

Very common, merc do a pair of "blockers" to stop oil going into the loom. can cause real probs if left........

So worth doing before the trouble starts if you have a 271
