Hi all -
It's a 1991 300E 24V (124.031)

I have oil leaking out of the front and back end of the camshaft cover (and it has destroyed my alternator already), I can see that someone has used a sealant, as well as a gasket in there and the sealant has broken down.

I can buy a new gasket from Euro Car Parts for about £34 (pp included) - or should I get a MB one? Also, should I buy some gasket sealant as well (and which sealant is best?)

Any other points / info would be welcome!
Cheers
Andy

Hello,
The new gasket shouldnt require any sealant, just nice clean surfaces to start with.

Can i just say, are you sure that the oil leak is from the cam cover, these engine are very prone to oil leaks from the bottom front cover seal.

Yep - it's definitely coming from the camshaft cover seal (front and back on the left hand side as you look from the front)

Thanks for the advice on the seal - I did wonder why sealant had been used - I suspect that the gasket was re-used and needed some help!

I'll order the gasket and give it a go!
Cheers
