Hi,

I have seen videos, posts relating to noisy diesel engines due to worn camshaft rocker arms.

The vehicles seem to be later models, 2016 - 2018.

Did engines dating back to 2010 have similar issues or this just a more recent issue with later engines.

Still trying to work out if my car is noisy or just typical of the breed.

Thanks

Paul

To be honest I don't know. Car is new to me. Out of interest I put another litre of oil in ( correct grade). Could be quieter, but need to listen for a while more.

Really annoying car doesn't come with a proper dipstick ( true reading and cannot give a faulty reading).

Car has done 95k.

Thanks

I seem to recall worn rockers/cams is a problem with the OM654 engine. Yours is the OM651 which is known for timing chain and tensioner issues.

What model/engine do you have?

I have to say that prolonged car killer service intervals, ‘aka dealer recommended bull crap’ and oil feed should be looked at first if you suspect wear.

Diesel c220 CDI sport CLC, 2010.

It also makes a bit of a strange noise when engine turns off. Squeek, hiss noise?

Newer cars. Cheap Chinese material, and often less of it as well. Remember Ford pinto engines had this issue oil spray bar related that fd up rockers n cam lobes

This fault was only specific to the OM654.

The rockers have bearings in them and its the bearings that fail causing the loud popping noise through the airbox.

That's going back a bit .... & the head had to come off to do the cam because you had to remove it towards the rear (unless you cut a hole in the bulkhead!)
