Hi

My car is a 1997 E300TD.

I've had a problem for about 6 weeks - when I bought the car. After locking the car with the remote, about 30secs later the alarm would go off.

I'd not got round to fixing it when the alternator freewheel pulley decided to expire. I bought a new pulley, borrowed the tool from a friend and fitted it all back together.

Pulley all good - a bonus is that I have loads more engine power - I suspect a turbo hose was leaking although all the clips were tight.
BUT
most surprising of all, the alarm doesn't go off when I lock the car.

Is that possibly connected with the alternator problem - I can't see how myself - any ideas

You most likely had a problem with the alarm bonnet switch which is on the left bonnet catch if a remember. they can break off the catch so when the bonnet is closed it doesnt switch the switch. next time you open the bonnet check the switch on the bottom of one of the catches for correct fitment and operation.
