Can I fit a universal back box to e240 advantgarde?

I m refusing to pay the £400+ MB and Inde quoted so I have three options:
- mild stainless steel custom made, universal cobra type, or breakers?

the bracket has rusted off and I ve been told it "could" be welded on but not sure it will pass this weeks MOT with it welded?

Can I use a universal one? Bit thick when it comes to cars...

Go to your MOT station (the council-run one) and ask. A layman might say that so long as the exhaust does its job, it matters not how its mounted, but there are jobsworths around...

as long as the system is secure, it doesnt matter whether the brackets have been re welded back on or not. as long as its secure and has no excessive leaks or noise, the exhaust should pass.

As above,have it welded. Ive done quite a few to get them through mots.

Weld it as above as long as it's doing it's job all should be ok

thanks... have it booked it to Grange moor body shop in morning so will see... he seems to think he can do something with it...

Had my E320CDi back box mounting bracket re-welded to the box 3 years ago, it cost me a tenner and has since passed 3 MOTs.
