that appears extremely harsh since drink and drivers often dont get fined anywhere close to that?
but then we have teenagers stealing cars ,causing havoc, finally getting caught after a long chase and getting a final warning??? plus a ban on a license that they are too young to hold...
am sure if you were to do a runner in your own car and being fully legal they would throw the book at you.

Yes there are these huge variations in the punishment for the sma crimes, if it goes to court it does depends on who you get on the bench.

What is more unfair is when a wealthy person can afford a solicitor, and get caught doing 135 mph and get away with a 7 day ban as one of my friends did

In today's news we read of a lady company director who was driving a CLK 220 CDI. Had just complete a long phone call on hands free, drove onto the opposite side of the road, across double white lines. Head on collision. Driver of other car, 55 year old lady, cut out of car but died at the scene.

Lady who misdemeaned found not guilty of dangerous driving, guilty of careless driving (don't ask me why, outcome was the same).

Fine of £2,000 and 12 months ban. car written off, so insurers will presumably furnish a new one?

I get the impression that the law in this country has a duty to ensure that legal process is conducted correctly. Justice is not necessarily a factor.
