Mercedes Kompressor 230 2000 w reg I have had in the last eight weeks had two replace both my old key for a new style key as the key would not start the ignition
Now the new key has failed and I was told that the ignition needed replacing
Then I was told the new key was not compatable with the new ignition
A new key was ordered and still the car would not start

Then I was told that the SAM unit was flooded and I am hoping that the car will be back on road soon.

I feel that I have been duped into a series of parts all because of a key recognition problem

The new key was operating all the doors and the old ignition for 8 weeks
Has anyone got any ideas as this is becoming more expensive by the minute and my car is still in the garage

Cheers

Marie

Hello,
i am not sure about wot car you have, theres no such merc as that!!

However i am quite sure your fault will be a faulty electronic igntion switch

sorry I have just amended it is a 230 they have fitted a new ignition and advised that it did not rectify the problem

Would a flooded sam unit be the cause as that is their latest diagnosis

Ellsey I am new to this site so I am not sure how to reply

The merc is a 230 kompressor 2000 w reg

They have now fitted a sam unit as they said the existing one was flooded will this rectify the problem as I authorised them to fit a new ignition and they said that it still didnt work

Thanks

Marie

yes water in one of the front sam units could cause the problem, but you would of thought this would of been diagnosised first off. does the key turn in the igntion? Is it a merc dealer who has the car?

Yes Ellsy it is in a merc dealership and no the key would not turn in the ignition

I am due to pick up the car tomorrow but would like to be able to stand my ground on the fact that they misdiagnosed it they have advised that they have got the car running disarming some process but advised they had replaced the sam unit plus another part related to the water damage that they eventually found in the sam unit
thanks

Well it hard to say really. I would of thought when the car first went in, the first diagnostic procedure would of been an electrical short test, which should of pointed them to the water ingress, however, it doesnt sound right about the key campatability, as you said why did it work for 8 weeks. i am not aware of a disarming process! that to sounds like crap!!

They also told me in the middle of the week that the reason that the new key did not work in the new ignition was because it was originally ordered for the old ignition and that they needed to order a key that was compatible with the new ignition that they had fitted I thought that this was crap and questioned them but they assured me that this was the case my bill at the moment is running at around £1000 !!!!

Thats bull! the keys are order for your chassis number and at no part of the order proces is it asked wot igntion switch you have. A key programmed for your car from mercedes will be one of 8 possible key tracks or freqencys, unless some has blocked one of these tracks, that key will work. the only reason it would be block is if requested by a owner due to a lost or stolen key as a anti theift pre-causion

I,m sorry but water in a sam unit might not show on a diagnostic.
