I wonder if anyone can help me?

I have a W211 E class, 2004 model with the DVD based Comand system installed, and also the 6 stack CD multichanger installed in the front console. I would like to know whether it is possible to play MP3s on the Comand system by inserting a disc either in the Comand directly or in the CD multichanger. Is this standard functionality or if not is there a software upgrade that I can get to modify the system to allow MP3s to play?

I am a new member to this site, so I apologise if this question has already been answered some time ago. I hope someone can help

Many thanks

the comand in the r171 does...but only if you put the cd with mp3 stuff in the dvd player slot. not in the cd changer....and dont put it in the sat nav dvd drive..it just confuses things.

My new W211 does play MP3 tracks on DVD, in the DVD slot above the COMAND screen itself. I would imagine, therefore, that you only need a software upgrade, which your dealer ought to be able to sort out for you.
Alternatively, there is a 4.1 Europe DVD Navteq disc on eBay currently, which ought to upgrade your s/w too.

Yes, I tried putting an MP3 disc in the slot on the front of the comand unit but it doesn't work; thanks for the tip though it was worth a try!

i am not a merc boffin so do not know what kit is fitted to what. however i do know that if the head unit is an older type then it will not play the music. the dvd drive is capable of picking up data but the head unit may not have the relevent software to convert it to sound. as far as i know you cannot flash head units.
it will defenitly be the head unit as DVD players are set to pick up data.
see if you can pick up and updated system from e-bay.
