Can't find insurance for my vintage benz MB100

Hello!

I've recently imported a car that was my project for a few years now (worked on abroad).
The car in question is this 1992 MB100 minibus with plans to convert it to a camper van (but not there yet)

The car has been modified:
- engine swapped for Mercedes 3.0L diesel OM603
- transmission swapped for automatic

But to be honest, I did not anticipate how hard it will be to insure this car here.. not even able to find a ridiculously expensive quote, just nothing.
I now had many calls with different brokers (I've lost track who I've spoken to, Adrian Flux for sure, but also other smaller brokers), always ending with "I'm sorry we can't help you" and advice to "ask on specialized forums" - which brings me to this place..

Please - can you help me find insurance for my Mercedes?

That is a tidy and a rare vehicle in this country.
Is it because it has been modified is causing the problem?.

Originally it had OM616 2.4L diesel, but 70HP could barely push it, plus I wanted an automatic so I found a mechanic who owns three like these and swapped one of his for a 5-cyl Mercedes diesel and offered to work on mine. Cost a small fortune, but he did a great job and the car drives fantastic now!

It's just imported, first reg in UK and not known to any database - I couldn't find it based on reg on confused.com and every broker I called asked the usual "make and model" etc - and ultimately always came back with "we don't have a quote for you" without further explanation.

Luckily after I've posted on reddit r/CarTalkUK, someone working at Adrian Flux helped me out and am now insured. Next year I'll start looking for a quote early armed with this experience
