Car and motorcycle insurance details

This topic came up yesteray lunchtime, and after reading HERBIEMERCMAN's post I thought that it would raise some sensible answers.

So here is the scenario any user of full size motorcycles and cars and possibly other vehicles has one driving licence, However he or she will be paying insurance on all the vehicles that they ride / drive. Now if there is any form of traffic offence it applies to the licence and not the "Group" Likewise any accident has to reported to all the incuranse companies and may affect your future premiums on all policys. Now looking on the practical side if ones licence was per "Group" i.e. 1 For car and 1 For Motorcycle then any convictions or accidents shoul apply to the licence "Group" or alternativly only one insurance premium should be payable to cover all veichles. I know this would only apply to single user policys but there must be some reasons here. I think it's just another way of getting extra money out of the road users.
Please discuss.

On one of the motorcycle site that I visit someone has made up a tax disc holder that reads "YESM I HAVE PAID MY ROAD TAX NOW GO FIX SOME POTHOLES" I wish they were in production somewhere.

Is this not that the person has commited the offence and what he drives does not come into it

I don't have a problem with an offence being committed in one vehicle affecting the insurance on another, it's a pain but if someone was convicted of drink driving in a car I wouldn't want him riding a motorbike because that licence wasn't affected.

What does annoy me is that no claims isn't transferable, I have to build up no claims on my car and each of my bikes separately. If as I did for awhile have 2 of my bikes on the same multibike policy then there is only 1 no claims benefit. If you then wish to split the bikes back onto 2 policies then only 1 of them can have the no claims discount the other has to start from 0 even if you have full no claims on you car and your other bike!

Quite agree Russ. If the penalty is transferable to all vehicles, then proof of diligence should be equally transferable. After all, when you change vehicles, the proof of NCD is enough to ensure NCD on the new vehicle policy.

I suppose the insurers response is that it will always be the Lowest Common Denominator, i.e. the least favorable insurance history, which would be applied to all vehicles?

My daughter has 6 years NCB on a motorcycle, and after passing her car test and buying a car, wanted to transfer her NCB to the car.

Every insurance company was the same - you cannot transfer NCB from Bike to Car, but we will take all accidents/claims on bike into account.

Talk about a lose/lose scenario!

No it's a win/win scenario for the insurance company as every option makes them more money.

Every insurance company was the same - you cannot transfer NCB from Bike to Car, but we will take all accidents/claims on bike into account. WHY????? That makes it the vehicle group thats insured and not the person. Why????

What if (Great saying) in a scenario you had 1 conviction SP30 and 1 No Fault claim accident one in a car and one on a bike, why should it be applicable to both policys, and befotre anyone gets smart yes it is because you have to inform the insurance companies as in Duncans statment. Win Win for the insurance companies, again.
