Good afternoon
I have a Mercedes Clk 240 Elegance 2002. Yesterday I had to swerve/stop suddenly. Car cut out and wouldn't re-start. Got a push to the side of the road - fortunately near my house. Called Recovery people. While waiting I tried ignition. Started okay - but yellow engine light was on. Recovery people arrive. I explain. Start car again - engine light goes off. He does diagnostic thing - fault comes up as crankshaft sensor. The question I have is was this due to my sudden stop? Had to wrench steering wheel rather. Is it safe to drive - seeing that it now starts okay and the engine light goes out? Should I have a new sensor fitted? Not sure this is something I can do myself - lacking such skills! Feedback would be very gratefully received. Thank you - Jonathan.

No, not due to the sudden stop, it was to do with how hot the sensor was at that time.
When allowed to cool down, the sensor is back to normal working.
Replacement is best left to a mechanic.

As above, a failing CPS will not allow you to start the car when its hot.
Let the car cool down and it will restart. The problem will get worse, so get it changed ASAP.

Good advice letting a garage change it too. It in a really awkward position and can be stubborn to remove.
I'd leave it to a Mercedes specialist if you have one locally.

Only use Bosch or genuine Mercedes sensors.

If you're handy with spanners and lucky it's an easy job though you do have to do it by feel.
